Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Essence Zanzibar (“we”, “us”) collects through www.essencezanzibar.com, why, and what rights you have. We apply it to visitors from every country, including the European Union and the United Kingdom, and in line with the Tanzania Personal Data Protection Act, 2022.

What we collect
- Requests you send us — through the contact form, email or WhatsApp: your name, email, phone number, what you are interested in, budget and timing if you choose to share them, and your message.
- Essence Privé — if you request access, your email address and a temporary one-time sign-in link; a session cookie keeps you signed in.
- Usage statistics — Google Analytics records anonymous information about how the site is used (pages viewed, device type, approximate country).
- Technical data — like every website, our hosting and security providers process your IP address and browser information to deliver the pages and protect the site against abuse.
- Preferences on your device — your chosen language and day/night mode are stored in your own browser (cookies or local storage) and are not sent to us.
Why we use it
- To answer your requests and send you the information you asked for (pre-contractual steps at your request).
- To run Essence Privé when you ask to join it (your consent).
- To understand and improve the website and keep it secure (our legitimate interest).
- To meet legal and accounting obligations when a booking or purchase goes ahead.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not send marketing emails unless you have asked to receive them.
Who we share it with
Only with providers that help us run the site, under their own data-protection terms: our web hosting provider and its Cloudflare network (hosting and security), Brevo (sending emails), Google (Analytics, Fonts and the site translation service), cdnjs (icons) and Open-Meteo (live weather; receives only technical connection data). When you ask about a property, hotel, tour or vehicle, we share the details needed to answer you with that owner, developer or partner. Some providers are located outside Tanzania and outside the EU.
How long we keep it
Requests and related messages: up to 24 months after our last contact, unless a booking or purchase requires longer for legal reasons. Essence Privé sign-in links expire after 15 minutes. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics retention settings.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy, and to withdraw consent at any time. Write to info@essencezanzibar.com. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority; in Tanzania this is the Personal Data Protection Commission.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed for the site to work (sign-in session, security, language) and Google Analytics statistics cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, although some preferences will not be remembered.
Changes
We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version.
