Who can be a partner

Owners, hotels, managers, agents and tour operators who have the right to offer what they list. You must use your real identity and send a valid ID document. We may refuse or close an account at any time, for example if documents are missing or not genuine.

Your listings

Everything you publish must be true, complete and up to date: descriptions, photos, prices, availability, licences and permits. Use only your own photos or photos you have the right to use.

We check every listing before it goes online. We may edit, translate, shorten, refuse or remove a listing at any time. You allow Essence to use your texts and photos on its website, app, social media and advertising while the listing is online and for a reasonable time after.

You are responsible for the licences, permits and taxes that apply to your activity in Zanzibar and Tanzania.

Prices

The price you enter is the amount you receive. Essence sets the final public price, which includes its service fee.

For places to stay and experiences, your price on Essence must be at least 20% lower than on any other platform or channel (Booking, Airbnb, your own website and others) for the same dates, rooms and conditions.

Keep prices and availability updated. A booking confirmed in writing must be honoured at the confirmed price.

Bookings and payments

Guests and buyers contact Essence. A booking exists only when Essence and you confirm it in writing. How and when payments are made is agreed in writing for each booking or partnership. The cancellation policy shown in your listing applies to the guest.

Property for sale

For land, houses, hotels and businesses, the commission of Essence is agreed in writing for each listing before it is published.

You confirm that you have the right to sell or lease the property and that its documents are genuine. Transfers in Zanzibar follow the law, including the approvals of the Land Transfer Board and, when needed, ZIPA. Listings based on proxy or nominee arrangements are not accepted.

Clients introduced by Essence

If a guest, buyer or tenant came to you through Essence, you will not deal with them directly to avoid Essence for 24 months. If this happens, the commission or fee that Essence would have received is still due.

Your data and documents

We use your documents only to verify your identity. They are kept in a closed folder that only Essence can open, and deleted within 12 months after your account is closed. Your other personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. You must protect the personal data of the guests and clients we send you.

If you choose the automatic check, Didit, our verification provider, processes your document photo and selfie for us and tells us the result.

Responsibility

You are responsible for the services you offer and for the information you give. You agree to cover Essence for claims caused by wrong information or by your services. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law.

Ending the partnership

You or Essence can end the partnership at any time with a written message. Bookings already confirmed stay valid. We may suspend an account straight away if these terms are not respected.

Changes and law

We may update these terms and will show the new date on this page; if you keep using your account, the new terms apply. These terms are governed by the laws of Zanzibar and the United Republic of Tanzania.

The English version prevails in case of differences between languages.
